WHO I AM

My name is Brooks Wicker, Jr., and I know first-hand Kentucky’s needs, because I have lived them. Growing up in Lyon County, Kentucky, I watched my father start his own drugstore and thrive thanks to work ethic, relationships and the freedom to make his own choices. But it wasn't always easy.

He worked hard, and he expected nothing less from the rest of his family. After high school, I graduated from the University of Kentucky (Accounting, 1981), and I am appreciative of the education I was able to receive.

I also know the importance of family. I have been married to Lynda H. Wicker for 27 years, and have a 16-year-old son, Sam, who is a student at Trinity High School, where he plays ice hockey.

Since 1983, I have been active in the business community of the Third District. I founded my own small business, The Wicker Group (www.wickergroup.com), in 1994. But I haven't only worked for myself. I have also served as controller, chief financial officer, vice president, and director in the fields of banking, real estate development, printing, advertising and public accounting.

As a CPA and Financial Advisor, I know that the greatest detriment to wealth creation in this country is taxes. The more the government takes from your paycheck, the less you have to invest or to provide for your family. The more taxes that are levied on business, the more everything costs and the lower our standard of living and the fewer jobs that will be created.

America IS business. And as your congressman, I will do everything I can to promote the success and growth of small and medium size businesses in Louisville and beyond.

My life story is not a complex one. Like you I worry about my family, my job and our future. But I can't sit back and watch the things I have worked so hard for -- and my father worked hard for -- slowly pulled apart.
