Concerned citizens of the 3rd District ask me every day, “What are you going to do when you’re elected to Congress?” For me, the answer is simple: Repeal Obamacare.

The President’s health care disaster is the biggest tax hike and the largest power grab in the history of the Federal Government. And with the national economy still standing on wobbly legs, the weight of the Affordable Care Act is far too heavy. It is costing jobs here in Louisville already — one of Louisville’s most important businesses, Humana, has had to lay off workers, and a Humana executive admitted that changes to the health care system were to blame. But remember, Obamacare has not even fully taken effect yet. It has to go.

My opponent, Mr. Yarmuth, appears more concerned with what will endear him to Democratic leadership than he is with the damage his votes in Congress have caused to his constituents. He even admitted recently that he thinks Obamacare is “too complicated” for us common folks to understand.

+ RIGHT-CLICK HERE TO HEAR YARMUTH ON OBAMACARE

I believe that Obamacare should be overturned by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional. And if they do not act, the I will make repeal my first priority as a congressman. The law is and will continue to be a colossal burden on Americans, one that increases in scope the longer it lasts.

Contrary to what its supporters will try to tell you, this law will ultimately produce more uninsured Americans, not fewer. As large numbers of companies discontinue providing a healthcare benefit to their employees because of this law, more people will face a world without proper coverage. Lacking options, folks will resort to getting healthcare where they can find it: emergency rooms or on some form of Medicaid.

Either choice further bankrupts the country as a whole and not just those who do not have coverage now.

Freer, more open, market-driven solutions where consumers participate in the buying decision have skin in the game and greater availability of product choice will provide better solutions for everyone.

Elect me to Congress and I will make it my mission to end this disastrous legislation. We must act now, before it’s too late.

Americans are frustrated by the lack of Congressional action on taxes. There are steps we can take immediately to streamline the system. As a CPA, I know first-hand that our tax code is needlessly complex. Once John Yarmuth and his Democrat buddies in Congress have been sent packing, we can get to work helping Americans with meaningful tax reform.

By broadening the tax base, doing away with favored streams of income so that everyone is paying taxes on the same income and lowering rates so that everyone is paying his or her share of the burden, we can simplify things so that paying taxes doesn’t mean bordering on bankruptcy for millions of Americans. Meaningful tax reform would help thousands of my fellow Kentuckians annually.

We should let American-based corporations bring home the trillions of dollars they have earned overseas, and already paid taxes on, with no tax liability so that they can put those dollars to work in our economy, thereby infusing badly needed capital into the private sector, creating jobs, and increasing investment. There are many ways to eliminate waste and ease the tax burden on nearly everyone. As a financial professional, I know how we can find relief.

I would not increase any taxes. Rather we need to stabilize taxes at the current level or reform the tax code by broadening the tax base and decreasing the rates. With either approach it is essential that we stabilize taxes as well as freeze and actually roll back implementation or regulations to provide certainty and predictability in the economy and markets. Doing this will fuel growth in the economy and create jobs. Once the economy is on sound footing and the tax code is reformed American will again be the best place in the world to do business.

Finally, raising revenue in a manner that unevenly targets middle- and even upper-income brackets is not going to work. We cannot grow by cynically pitting income groups against one another. Critics of capitalism have lately been calling for economic warfare under the guise of “fairness.” Well, 10% of taxpayers pay about 80% of the taxes paid by individuals, while almost 50% of Americans pay no income tax at all, and many in fact receive government refunds of money they did not pay.

Just as taking money from those who don’t have it isn’t right, taking it from those who create jobs and propel the country’s economy and handing it to those that do not isn’t “fairness” either. It’s craven class politics, and it’s wrong. We need meaningful tax reform and a return to common sense economic policy.

I know exactly what it takes to get these vital priorities done. After all, it’s been my life for the last 31 years.

Our country is a massive energy consumer. That isn’t going to change. So we must enact an energy policy that addresses growing demand with sensible, realistic ways of increasing supply that don’t make our nation reliant on inconsistent and even hostile foreign suppliers.

We need to maximize the use of the resources we have right here at home and minimize our dependence on foreign oil producers. It is ludicrous as well as dangerous that a country like Iran can send markets into turmoil just by threatening to shut down a strategic waterway.

My opponent, John Yarmuth, opposes Kentucky’s biggest energy advantage: coal. I believe we must utilize all our energy resources to wean ourselves off foreign oil. The simple truth is that America sits on the world’s largest deposit of coal. We should explore all avenues of energy creation, including clean coal technologies. Becoming the world’s leader in smart energy would also create much needed jobs, right here in the Commonwealth.

As technology continues to become integrated in almost everything we do as a culture, demand for energy is only going to increase. Until we set a course to fundamentally alter the way we get energy, things will only get worse.

Our children are this country’s greatest resource. That’s why education reform is one of my top priorities.

It is past time to acknowledge that the model of education policy being dictated by Washington does not work and cannot work. Placing the responsibility of education with the states where it belongs means 50 test markets to see what works best, as well as a return to the common-sense understanding that what works in one area may not necessarily work in another. In addition, more attention must be paid to teaching History, Civics, and Economics at all levels. The future of our Republic depends on properly preparing young people to succeed in today’s world. We owe it to our children to empower them with what they need to thrive.

Government can help make higher education more affordable. We can also allow for incentives for the formation of stable families and the perpetuation of the family unit. Studies show that children raised in a two-parent home perform better in school, are less likely to commit crimes and are more successful in life. Encouraging a strong home life has benefits that far exceed those of handouts and welfare.

There is no reason our young people should be at a disadvantage to those in other countries, not with the financial resources we have available to us. Let’s work hard to insure that today’s students turn into tomorrow’s innovators and job creators.

Unlike career politicians, Brooks isn’t above talking to voters about their concerns. That’s why you won’t get pawned off on some staff member if you contact the candidate at his direct campaign cell phone.

Sometimes, you have to step up and call people on their mistakes. That’s what I did to Representative John Yarmuth.

On April 16, many of us were surprised to open the Sunday Courier-Journal and see Yarmuth’s Op-Ed letter debating specific points from a prior Op-Ed written by Kentucky Senator and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Then Mr. Yarmuth went around telling everyone about his nifty response.

Well, I was unimpressed. So unimpressed, I decided to pen my own letter in response to his response. After all, last time I checked John wasn’t running against Sen. McConnell, he was running against me.

You can read the letter here. I think it pretty well sums up my thoughts on the Affordable Care Act and on Yarmuth’s flimsy response. I’m not sure I would have been quite so proud of it, honestly.

Let me know what you think on Facebook and Twitter, or send me an email. And remember, Yarmuth is loaded, so all donations are going to be needed to beat him. You can donate by CLICKING HERE.

UPDATE

The Yarmuth for Congress campaign replied a week later with the following:

“Dear Mr. Wicker,
Thank you for your letter. Congressman Yarmuth will be happy to discuss these issues with you during the campaign debates this fall. Please let me know if you have any questions.”

The response came from the campaign’s Treasurer, not from Mr. Yarmuth directly.

Sometimes we get a valuable look at the truth, even when politicians don’t want us to.

In a remarkable moment of clarity today, Rep. John Yarmuth, the man who ostensibly represents your interests in Washington, let the world know exactly what he was thinking during a debate with radio host Mandy Connell on WHAS Radio.

Speaking about a recent claim he made in his rebuttal letter to Senator Mitch McConnell in the April 16 edition of the Louisville Courier-Journal that $500 billion dollars in cuts to Medicare weren’t actually cuts, the congressman apparently got tired of, you know, answering questions about his vote for the massive Obamacare fiasco, and attempted to cut the point short by uttering this nugget:

“I can’t imagine anyone in the audience [chuckle chuckle] right now understands what we are talking about. It’s very complicated.”

RIGHT-CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE ACTUAL EXCHANGE

Well, gee, thank you Mr. Yarmuth for gracing us with your wisdom. Maybe it’s true to you that common people are too stupid to understand some things, but it seems to us that maybe — just maybe – we can grasp where our hard-earned tax dollars are being spent by Washington politicians like yourself, between golf tee times that is. And we even like to learn things from time to time. (Shocking, I know!)

It sounds to us like maybe you just don’t much care for answering questions from the rabble.

We tend to agree with Ms. Connell’s response.

“But it’s not complicated, John.”

No, John, it isn’t. You’re out of touch and you think you’re smarter than the people you represent. Well guess what, you aren’t. And come November 6, it will be abundantly clear.

If you’re tired of arrogant politicians telling you what’s best for you, then join our campaign to unseat Lord Yarmuth from the House of Lords.

“OBAMA’S TAX AND SPENDING POLICIES WILL YIELD $6.4 TRILLION OVER THE NEXT DECADE”: ”The Congressional Budget Office said Friday that President Barack Obama’s tax and spending policies will yield $6.4 trillion in deficits over the next decade, more than double the shortfall in CBO’s own fiscal baseline – even after taking credit for reduced war costs.”
